Wall of Travels
One of Jon and I’s favorite things to do together is travel. Whether it be by boat, plane, car or train…we love it all! Between the two of us we have been to over 40 states, 6 countries, and 4 continents, and Lord-willing, this summer we will add Ukraine (Europe) and Alaska to that list. 🙂 A couple of years back I had the idea to create a “travel wall.” The idea was to put together a gallery wall to document and remember our travels….ideally it would consist of a map, photos, and a shelf or two to put a few small souvenirs. Well we finally got around to starting it and have working on adding to it for the past several months, but it is now finally to the point where I can show you! 😉
There is still some progress to be made, but I wanted to share some of sources and ideas with you so you could get started on planning your own travel wall!
We found this galvanized map at Hobby Lobby on clearance this past winter, and I knew immediately that it would be perfect for marking where all we have been in the world! The magnetic push pins I found on Amazon here. (We ran out before I got to mark all the states so I need to order more!)
Australia is Jon and I’s dream travel destination, so I found this map of Australia at a vintage store a few weeks ago, and stapled it into the back of an old frame. Then I stuck the “It’s always better together” postcard in the corner. 🙂
As I mentioned earlier, I knew we would want a shelf to put souvenirs….but I wasn’t quite sure what to use. On one of our weekly trips to Menards, however, I spotted an 8′ metal stud for $2 and knew it would make a swell little floating shelf (find it online here).
This giraffe print along with the zebra and giraffe on the shelf were brought back from South Africa, and the carved bamboo slices were brought back from our honeymoon to Trinidad & Tobago. Eventually I would like to add some polaroid photos to the mix, too!
Hope you’ve been inspired to start your own travel or hobby gallery wall! If you do, be sure to post a pic on Instagram and tag me (@graceunmeasured). I would love to see! 🙂
Happy Craftin’ Friends!
