the GO Tour
Stellar Kart, Kutless, and the Newsboys
(March 2nd, Norfolk, VA)
Seeing the Newsboys in concert is always a very special thing for me. The Newsboys are my top, number 1, overall favorite band, and I feel the same way about their shows. The first time I went to see them was in Norfolk, VA on February 12th (2004), the opening night of Adoration: The Tour. Apart from the fact that I had just gotten a bad cold, that was one of the best shows I've ever seen, and one of the funnest days of my life! After seeing them one more time at the end of the year, I looked forward to seeing them after their next album came out. Well, they made me wait quite a while for that, as they finally released GO at the end of last October, and didn't come to my area until this March. Well, the 2-year wait was quite worth it! Get some tickets because this is the Newsboys' best tour since the Step Up To The Microphone tour in '99...ok, I didn't actually attend that tour, but my sis Ashleigh did, and I've seen the DVD, so I think I have enough to prove that it was a good tour ;-) But anyway, let me remember the fantastic concert, which is actually the whole point of this page...
Opening the concert were the fantastic guys of Stellar Kart! I had heard of them quite a bit but never actually listened to their music...well, even though before the concert I was hoping they'd just get things over with quickly so I could see the Newsboys, I ended up almost not wanting them leave! These guys are full of energy and personality, and I highly recommend that you go see them whenever you can! If you like Relient K and Sanctus Real, you should love Stellar Kart! So anway...
They kicked off with "Activate," one of the singles from their latest album and one of my personal favorites. That was an extremely great performance and a very perfect show opener! After that they went a bit more mellow with the uplifting "Me and Jesus" (the first single from the latest album), and the beautiful, heart-wrenching "Hold On" (the latest single).
They kicked things back up with "Procrastinating," and then made us laugh with the 15-second "Tree Climber." As we were told by lead singer Adam Agee,
"This next song we're gonna do is called "Tree Climber." It's 15 seconds long, and what we want you all to do is jump throughout the entire thing. That way, you can go home and tell your friends that you jumped for an entire song...just don't tell them it was only for 15 seconds!"
...we all laughed, and then they had the crowd jump for 15 seconds straight. Sounds fun, huh? Well, you know what was even more fun was when they closed with everyone's favorite song of their's, "Life Is Good." That was certainly the ultimate climax of the show! It was easy to get into since the main line was simply "Life is good, eternal life is better," so we were all able to sing along. Man, why did they have to leave? Such a fantastic band with a fantastic show!
You know what was one of the best parts of Stellar Kart? Brian Calcara, the bassist. He's totally made for the band and it would be a disaster if he were to ever leave! He really made the show what it was...he was so full of energy and great personality. He's also really great with crowd interaction, which is always a very important thing in a concert (I'm pretty sure he smiled at me a couple times, so that was quite fun!). Don't get me wrong though, the rest of the band members were also fantastic! Anyway...Stellar Kart put on a wonderful show, but the best thing about them is their passion for God and for ministry. Rock on Stellar Kart...you guys are, well, stellar ;-)
